The Adventure Kids had a real adventure today!
We started off with some JuJu warm ups. We each drew a box and JuJu showed us how to use the box to do jumps - up and down, backwards and forwards, sideways and then anyways! Lots of jumps…. It was on to balance exercises next and just when we thought we were getting good, we had to close our eyes, not so easy then!!! Onto hip pumps and everyone is getting really good at these and then something a little more difficult - working on balance from a hip pump....this is not so easy and is tough on the quads but some were super good at holding their balance! Next it was jumping our legs in and out while hands flat on the ground and then onto a favourite, the crab with our bellies up. Again, JuJu makes this look soo easy - some got a bit distracted and ended up in the woods.
We ran up into the woods and the kids stopped to pick some blueberries to get some energy as they would need it for our races! When we saw the heap of stone they are using to “fix” the Wicklow Way, we had lots of fun running up it and going down in different ways, on bums sliding down, jumping or running down. It was tough the first few times but everyone got used to it and soon, it was no bother to them and by the end of it the kids were having so much fun, they just wanted to keep on going up and down.
But there was more fun lined up and we headed up to the fire road to do some races. JuJu had hoola hoops to add to the fun of running. Everyone had to try to get through the hoops without touching them. Not so easy when the adults were moving them in every directions!!
After this is was off to do some hill training. Everyone learned a lot on the hills today - small strides, do the JuJu dance and you will get up that hill in no time. Down the hill we need to keep off our heels and keep our stride small again, kick our feet outwards.
Then we did some races doing the frog jump which again JuJu makes look like a walk in the park but it’s not so easy for the kids or the parents but it was fun as always! And then, the new adventure began!
Mary and Molly invited all the kids up to see their donkeys – Jack and George and their ponies, Tiny, Princess and Lady and what a treat it was. We ran up to their house and called for Jack and George and two very excited and LOUD donkeys came bounding over, such lovely donkeys! And then we went to see the gorgeous ponies who loved to be rubbed and chatted too! And while we were there, we did a lap of the field which overlooked Scarr Mountain on one side and Brockagh on the other – how beautiful it was!! Thank you Mary and Molly!!!
It was time to head back to the cars then and because it was late and we didn’t get time to do a river dip, we all went for a 99 instead!! Such a great way to end another amazing Adventure Kids.
