We had a super duper adventure with the kids today. It started off with Juju warm ups, jumping up and down then backwards and forward and run on the spot, Then we followed Juju round and round in circles until we got dizzy, getting nicely warmed up.
Once warmed up we ran up into the woods and did some jumps, learning how to land softly and not slip or slide. The guys did great every time but the Dads were the winners this time. I think they were having more fun than the kids! Time to follow Juju again and we all jogged into the squishy floored woods. It is so soft and squishy under your feet, it’s lovely! Working on balance and animal movements, we did some balance moves, getting one leg out in front of us, raising it as high as possible and then doing the same to the side and the back with both legs almost like Kong fu kicks!! After this, Juju showed us how to do frog jumps, crab craw moves and the giraffe, working on strengthening our core and hips. The kids got the crab down to a tee. The Dads were rubbish at the crab but they were super at the frog jumps.
We headed off further into the woods and did some orienteering, giving the kids a chance to look around and do a 360 degree turn to see what was in the woods and get themselves familiar with their surroundings. They were great at finding the hut in the woods and then finding their way back to the trail, listening and looking around all the time.
A big adventure began then… scrambling through the woods and taking the juju trail down to the river. We found some big juicy blueberries and odd looking fungi, dodged holly trees and climbed up banks. It was great fun and we all loved it. We made our way back to the Wicklow Way and did some trail running, learning how to run over roots and wet rocks, how not to land on them the wrong way. And then, it was the sand pile time, the kids summit…time to run, jump and make some animal (or other) sounds. The kids always love this but the adults seem to secretly enjoy it too!!
There was some speedy sprinting spurts on the fire road on the way back to the cars. And then, there was a child carrying race!! Juju got the dads put their girls over their shoulders and off they went, not a bother to them. I think the girls enjoyed this wee bit more than the dads!! Once back at the cars we did some cool downs to end such a fun and adventurous session.
Looking forward to next week already!
