Well, it was our first session in Devil’s Glen tonight and what a super session it was too. There was no fear of any tired children tonight, full speed ahead for this Adventure Kids session.
We started off with our warm ups, doing some balance exercises with ninja moves from everyone, some thinking it was sooo easy! Frog jumps, squats and hip pumps were next with JuJu showing everyone how to do these exercises properly with kids and parents joining in together. The next warm up was a relay race with the kids going strong and the parents doing great too - the first relay race was running and the second one was with frog jumps to make it that little bit more challenging. Everyone rose to the challenge no bother!
JuJu brought the kids through the woods for a warm up run, circling the trees, jumping routes and any other obstacles. We got to a fence and tried to get through it without touching it, pretending it was an electric fence!!…this was much easier for some people and most of us would have been electrocuted if it was a real electric fence!!
Then it was up to the top of the hill for some speed work – a quick downhill and return uphill as fast as possible. This was great fun and before they set off, the kids posed with their best faces and then did the “Dab”!! Some moves!! They did the circuit 3 times and were a little tired after so we gave them a break and let the parents have a go & it was no easy task but there were some strong runners there tonight and the going was good.
The cheaters tonight got to do burpees and they were all really GOOD at them, no bother to do 10 or more!!
We did a little running through the woods and learned how to tap tap tap, going as lightly with small steps over an obstacle. The kids were brilliant at this but I think the parents won the prize on this one!
Sarah our Spartan champion did some tough exercises with the kids but again, they rose to the challenge and did 10 sets of knees up, press ups and star jumps and wanted more….
So, it was time for cat and mouse which is always a favourite and what a great woods to play this in. The ground is so soft and there are loads of trees for people to hide to get their breath back. However, it is on a slope so the running was hard going but everyone had great fun and each team got a chance to be cats and mice. And of course the parents had a go at being the mice, they were so fast tonight but the kids got together and used great tactics and caught them all.
We finished the session with a team game, the kids lay on the forest floor in a row, the person at the top then jumped over each other child and we continued this all the way back to the cars…where we did a little warm down after such an energetic session.
We hope all the Adventured Kids had fun tonight..we certainly did. I know I’ll sleep well!!
