Wow what a fantastic sunny & warm Saturday for our Wilderness First Aid Workshop hosted by Adventure Kids Wicklow & JuJu Jay.
We all headed into Brockagh Woods for the Introduction to Wilderness First Aid taught by Niamh Gaffney & everyone got involved and throughout the morning we learned how to assess a patient, figure out what wound to dress first, Stop the bleeding & clean and dress the wound.
We had some time for questions (and there were lots!) Next thing Niamh showed us how to put an arm into a sling, Rolling an unconscious person into the recovery position and talking to a concussed person.
Everyone got their turn to be the patient or the first aider and put everything into practice.
We talked about how to contact Mountain Rescue if you are in trouble on the hills or if you get lost from your family.
We also talked about orienteering by JuJu if you got lost.
Last but not least we went to the river for a water safety talk. We discussed different scenarios. All of the kids were really clued in and they all learnt a lot!! They each got presented a certificate for the workshop. What a great day in the woods!
Well done all☺
