Splish splash! The Adventure Kids had a blast! Our session was a real adventure. All the mucky puddles from the rain last night added to the fun and oh, what fun we had!
It was a chilly start to the session with everyone wrapped up very well….it didn’t take long to heat up. JuJu did some warm ups, jumping up and down, running forwards and backwards and running sideways and the other way!! I think he was trying to confuse us. We set off slowly, warming up some more along the trail. We did some donkey kicks and high knees while running along.
We came to the pile of stone and it’s amazing how much fun a pile of stone can be. JuJu showed the kids how to run up and down the other side with small steps - tap, tap, tapping and. Once everyone had a go, they did it again and did a 360 degree turn at the top....the next time they had to squat and do an animal noise and then run down the other side.
Off we went up the hill along the Wicklow Way. When JuJu asked the kids what was the best way of getting up the hill most efficiently, they answered correctly…small steps and take your time (they are all learning). All the kids were doing great and JuJu got the Mom’s to sprint up the hill and told them to stop at the turn. Well, they were chatting and didn’t stop at the turn & what happens when you don’t follow the JuJu rules??? They found out! 10 burpees each…yikes. I think they will listen next time and stop the chatting!!
When we got to the top of the hill, the real fun started, the kids headed up to the Mountain! Wow! It was a first for a lot of them and so exciting to be heading up to the mountain. We stopped and looked at the signs making the kids aware of what was around them and what each sign said. And then we began to run…the puddles were so high and so much fun that the kids had splash marks on their faces! The biggest kid (name begins with J) shouted SPLASH while running through every puddle and everyone joined in. The next lesson was how to donkey kick through a puddle ensuring the person behind you got very wet and it worked!!
We got to the view point and what a view it is. You can see both Glendalough lakes and the monastic site. Well, we enjoyed the sites but we also played eye spy! It was just super up there.
Then it was time to come back, through all the dirty, mucky puddles again…splish, splash, fun, fun all the way!! On the way back down, some of the kids kept going past JuJu so they got to do the JuJu punishments….burpees, sit ups, star jumps or press ups. I think everyone had a go at them by the end.
When we got down the hill, we went into the church for some maze fun – trying to get out of it looks easier than it is and cheating was the only option for some…
So no time for a river dip today but we didn’t need one as everyone was soaked but happy! Today was a blast and we can’t wait till next week.
